Here, a grid is first drawn of a black horizontal line with vertical boxes (protrusions) above and below it. With a die, yes (black) or no (white) is determined per row, working from left to right. First above the central line, then below it. After each roll, 1 square is skipped as a white space. In the right-hand margin, the total number of blacks per row is counted.
