COACH 1995
1995

On January 1, 1992, Henk started a project that would later turn out to be his Magnus Opus. He decides to challenge the (word) CHANCE. For this he uses a die of six. The T=1, O=2, E=3, V=4, A=5, L=6. So he only has to throw 1,2,3,4,5,6 and he has the word COUNCIL. Henk proceeds as follows. He divides the sheet into 18 columns of 48 lines, making 864 attempts per sheet. He throws six times in a row and stamps the letters thrown. When he has thrown all the letters of RANDOM in an attempt, but not in the right order, he underlines the attempt. He calls this a small result. On each sheet he keeps scores of the number of letters thrown. After 11 years and 9 days, after 100 sheets, 86.038 words, 516.228 letters, on January 9, 2003 at 14:12 PM he will finally throw the word CHANCE. It is the ultimate consequence of an idea, after all there is no haggling.
In the years that follow, Henk will make numerous analyzes of this project. Which words (letter combinations) were thrown how often, which were not thrown, how many words starting with T, O, E, V, A, L, etc. All kinds of counts that he wrote down in his sketchbooks and which could then lead to new works.
